About Me
Unlike most people in radio, I knew nothing about radio until I bought a station in rural Alaska and learned how to run it as a new owner. I graduated from Chico State University in California with a degree in Journalism and a minor in International Relations. I wrote for the college newspaper and got experience writing for Sonoma Business Magazine and other publications. I accepted a job out of college doing Public Relations for a Market Research Firm in the San Francisco Bay Area. I moved to the Marketing Department and worked with International Partners to help them with marketing pieces to sell our marketing reports. When I moved to Valdez, Alaska I worked for the Valdez Convention & Visitors Bureau where I worked with a lot of small local businesses and learned about our community. When our local radio station owner came to me to suggest I purchase his radio station, I thought he was crazy. I purchased his AM station at the age of 27 and the first time I read the weather on the air was as a radio station owner. Five years later, I built an FM station.
My Market
