About Me

Born in the City of Brotherly Love and raised on soft pretzels, Philly cheese steaks and Temple University, Nancy and Joe met in the college library where he was pretending to be studious and she bought the image. lock-stock-and-barrel.

In the summer of 1971, Joe's dream of being on the radio became a reality when he was hired by WBUX in Doylestown, PA. The radio station was literally located in the middle of a cow pasture. Unbeknownst to Joe, Nancy was setting her clock radio to listen to in the mornings on The Big 1570 AM. You might say she was Joe's first groupie. They graduated from college and got married in 1976.

It wasn’t long before Joe's career in radio became like the sitcom TV show lyrics of WKRP, “moving from town to town and up and down the dial.” Ever since Joe can remember, he wanted to own a radio station and in 2001, after 30 years of corporate radio, Nancy and he scraped together the money to buy the old AM 930 from the Press Enterprise.

Bloomsburg was everything they wanted in a community. A town rich in radio history, a college town, a river, a strong sense of community, with good schools, and offering a great quality of life.

With the success of WHLM AM came the opportunity to bring back WHLM FM. In the spring of 2006, a new corporation, Columbia FM, Inc. They purchased the assets of WKAB 103.5 FM in Berwick and restored the WHLM FM call sign. In 2012, Berwick's 1280 AM (WBWX) was added to the radio family. Subsequently we have sold off WHLM FM in 2018.

Today the Columbia Broadcasting Company empire has grown to include, News Radio 930 WHLM, 94.7, 104.3, and 105.5; WBWX 1280 AM; and WHLM.COM.

Joe is the General Manager and Nancy runs the business side of things.
