About Me
I grew up in this business. My Dad was Walter E. May, a broadcasting legend – former Chair of the NAB Radio Board, circa 1977 or so. He started our family company, I ran it for many years. In May 2019 my partners and I bought the assets of the former East Kentucky Broadcasting and East Kentucky Radio Network, and formed Mountain Top Media, built on a great tradition. We have 14 radio signals, a streamed/cable TV station, 23 digital properties, and offer video production, graphic design, marketing, branding, and even print projects. Personal note: My husband Randy retired recently as the director of chaplaincy at Pikeville Medical Center. With 5 adult kids between us, 4 grandchildren, and a home with 3 rescue dogs and a floofy cat, we are never bored. I identify as a tall person, regardless of what my doctor says. And at the request of the esteemed Dan Latham, it can be confirmed that I enjoyed one glorious year as a cheerleader, back when cheerleaders were NOT athletes.
My Market
Pikeville, Kentucky is nestled in the breathtaking Appalachian Mountains very near the West Virginia and Virginia borders. The nearest airport is about a 2 hour drive from us, in either Lexington, KY, Tri-Cities in Tennessee, or Huntington/Charleston, WV. Our little town of Pikeville only has about 5,000 residents, but our rural audience amounts to nearly a quarter of a million people. We are the second largest banking hub in the state, and don't tell anyone but word is that our Texas Roadhouse has been the most profitable in the chain for a number of years. We have some diversity, thanks to the regional hospital and a local university. Our economic base used to be coal, but that's all but disappeared. We now have healthcare, banking, and service industries to sell to...not a whole lot of retail. Pikeville is continuing to thrive in spite of our somewhat isolated position, and our city regularly wins awards for innovation. Tourism is growing, as we are the epicenter of the historic Hatfield & McCoy Feud and our mountains and rivers are gorgeous.
