About Me

My name is Paula Marx. I’m from South Louisiana in a small area called Acadiana which in the middle of Cajun Country. My parents started KBON 101.1 in 1998. I have been employed here since 2002 working for them. I started out doing sales/telemarketing back in my dad’s office. Then I was moved to traffic when our traffic girl quit. I stayed in that position for a little over a year. Our station manager had gotten sick and could no longer perform her job with KBON so, my dad told me I was going to be Station Manager. I knew nothing of running a radio station. I never attended college. I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. So, I buckled down and started reading everything I could read about radio. After 19 years employed, I will still tell you that I don’t know everything and I am still shy in front of the mic (lol), but I try every day to do my best.

My Market

Thought we are in a small town called Eunice, we are ranked in the Lafayette, La market. It is ranked 112th market. For 12 plus we have a metro population of 477,00, Hispanic 19, 5000 and black 127,000.

My Stations

My parents started KBON 101.1 in 1998. My father worked for over 20 years doing a radio show on different stations promoting a variety of music and included Louisiana music. He finally got tired of only promoting Louisiana music on the weekends so, he went and talked with a few radio station owners about adding Louisiana music to their regular format and include it 24/7. Everyone he spoke with laughed at him and told him it would never work. At this time my dad was tired of talking to other owners and decided he wanted to buy his own station. He owned a night club and a lounge in a town next to where we live now. He decided to sell it all and him and my mom buy a radio station. It was a crazy move because he knew nothing about the radio business except how to be a DJ. All around our area owners and music programmers laughed and gave them 6 months. My dad believed, if you dream it and build it they will come. He dreamed it, he built it and our listeners came. We were the first radio station to go variety and have Louisiana music added into the mix 24/7. Magazines, Newspapers and Tv stations came from all over to do news stories on us. We mixed it and mixed it well... We played Cajun, Swamp pop, Zydeco, Blues, Country, Classic Country and even some Southern and soft Rock. It took off like we couldn't have imagined. Now 25 years later we are still going strong and have changed the way radio stations do business around here in Acadiana. I can go on and on, but I think that is enough.... Ask and I will be glad to tell you about my dad's dream come true and how unique our radio station is... Louisiana Proud KBON 101.1
