My love affair with radio dates back to 1975, while still in high school, and I have spent time working at these stations:
KICD-FM in Spencer, Iowa.
KRGS-FM in Spencer, Iowa
KEMB-FM in Emmetsburg Iowa (Owned by the people who now run SMARTS Broadcasting)
KJJG-FM in Spencer, Iowa
and since 1987, KIWA-AM&FM in Sheldon, Iowa
In my years at KIWA, I've (at varying times) been Chief Operator, News Director, Sports Director, Program Director, and have even filled in on Traffic in an emergency. I was appointed General Manager of KIWA in May of 2022.
My Market
KIWA's primary broadcast area is the four farthest-northwest counties in Iowa, with a secondary area extending into southeast South Dakota, southwest Minnesota, as well as more than five additional counties in northern and western Iowa.
Our market is primarily rural (our City of License is just over 5,000 people), and we're tucked in the middle of some of the most fertile farmland in America.
My Stations
KIWA-AM 1550 (along with translator 100.7-FM) is a Syndicated Talk station that carries Shawn Hannity, Mark Levin and others, along with high school sporting events for the local high school.
KIWA-FM 105.3 is a Classic Hits station that also broadcasts football and basketball games for area high schools. KIWA-FM can be heard worldwide 24/7 via online stream at kiwaradio.com
