About Me

Genesee Media was founded in 2011 by Brian McGlynn when he purchased the company's two stations in Dansville, N.Y. I joined Genesee Media in 2013 when the company added two stations in Rochester, WASB (now WRSB) and WRSB (now WOKR) and later became a partner in the business.

My radio experience dates back to 1979 when I joined Rochester Institute of Technology student station WITR, at which I served in several roles, including two years as General Manager. I have been part of WITR's college hockey broadcasts since they started in 1982 and have been the primary play-by-play broadcaster since 2008, including on iHeart's local Fox Sports affiliate. I also had stints doing afternoon traffic on WHAM, and worked for 10 years for non-commercial jazz station WGMC.

I founded and am the publisher of JazzWeek, which is the national radio airplay chart for non-commercial jazz radio and I host the annual JazzWeek Summit jazz radio conference.

In college hockey, I also produce and co-host three weekly podcasts and am a national columnist for USCHO.com. I have covered 18 NCAA Frozen Fours.

My background also includes managing and implementing web development and application projects, with an emphasis on integrating open-source software with expertise in project management, programming, development and interface design and have served clients ranging from Fortune 100 companies to VC-funded startups.

My Market

Our market is the Rochester, NY DMA. WRSB is at the center of the metro, while our WDNY (AM) and WDNY-FM are about 50 miles south of the center of the metro in Dansville, N.Y., straddling the Rochester and Elmira-Corning markets, and about 50 miles from Corning and 70 miles from Elmira. WDNY AM and FM are for all intents and purposes unrated. When we've subscribed to Nielsen and seen numbers, we have about an equal number of listeners in both markets.

WRSB's audience is predominantly the nearly 70,000 Hispanic population in our DMA, the second-largest Hispanic population in New York, second only to NYC.

WDNY-FM and WDNY (AM) broadcast to a population of just under 100,000 in small towns and nearby rural areas in southern Livingston and northern Steuben counties, as well as portions of three nearby counties. The median age of our population is 47.

My Stations

WDNY-FM is branded as Classic Rock 93.9. We switched to the format in December 2017 and the bulk of our programming is from LRN, except for three syndicated weekend shows. We have Woody & Wilcox mornings. The move to classic rock was immediately well received and has proven to be much more popular and easier to sell than the AC formats that had been on the station since the early 90s.

WDNY (AM) has a translator at 105.7 FM, broadcasting from the same tower as WDNY-FM, with 250 watts at about 1500' HAAT. and rebranded as 105.7 WDNY. We have a new jingle package from Creative Ready and new imaging ready to go. We have Anna and Raven mornings and John Tesh from 7 to midnight Sunday-Friday. WDNY is also our home for high school sports with two or three games weekly and daily high school sports updates.

We've added Soft AC "Fresh Lake Air" WYLF in Penn Yan, N.Y. and will soon return Classic Country WOKR in Canandaigua, N.Y. to our group. More updates on them here eventually.

WRSB and its translator W248BH are branded as Mega 97.5 and are programmed under a time brokerage agreement with a Spanish CHR format. WRSB also has a translator CP at 106.5 as part of AM revitalization. We're exploring a new HD2 originator for 97.5 so that we can add another FM signal in the market. The current 97.5 and the new 106.5 each will reach a population of about 600,000.
